What Is Remedial Massage Therapy?

Remedial Massage Therapy involves the assessment and treatment of the soft tissues of the body (muscles, connective tissue, fascia and tendons) to reduce pain, assist with the rehabilitation of injury, or to enhance a person’s health and well-being. Treatments are tailored to each individual based on your assessment findings and what you would like to get out of your session.

Compared to a massage you may receive at a salon, massage parlour or day spa, a Remedial Massage Therapist is required to undergo a higher level of training and extensive supervised clinical hours to provide them with a more comprehensive knowledge of anatomy and the pathophysiology of injury and illness.

Remedial Massage Therapists must be accredited and registered with a professional governing body. They must maintain appropriate insurances, provide evidence-based professional treatments, and work in compliance with specific standards of practice and ethical guidelines. They are also required to maintain up to date skills with ongoing professional development.

Due to this higher level of training and accountability, services provided by a Remedial Massage Therapist are eligible for private health rebates.

Sports Massage
A vigorous massage tailored to address common sporting ailments to improve sports performance. Often used pre or post training or competition
Swedish Massage
A system of long strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, vibration, cupping and shaking techniques to release muscle tension, promote relaxation and improve circulation.
Pregnancy Massage
Uses a combination of Swedish and remedial techniques to reduce tension and pain and improve blood flow.
Deep Tissue Massage
Focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissues to “unstick” the muscles fibres and release toxins and tension.
Trigger Point Massage
Focused treatment on small contractions (“knots”) within the muscle. Firm pressure is applied and released by the therapist in a sequence.
Seniors Massage
