How Does it Work?
The therapeutic benefits of hydrotherapy are derived from the thermal and mechanical properties of water interacting with the body. These properties include the water temperature, the unloading effect of buoyancy, the compressive forces of hydrostatic pressure, the effects of water resistance, and water turbulence.
These result in less stress on your muscles and joints, enabling you to perform movements that you are unable to do on land, or find too painful. This makes it easier to do exercises that improve your muscle strength, endurance, flexibility and overall fitness.
Hydrotherapy is very different to swimming. You do not need to be able to swim to attend hydrotherapy. If you are nervous about water, your therapist will be close by to provide any assistance you may need.
